24,500-acre wildlife refuge that is host to migratory birds, rare fish species, and over 90 species of dragon & damselflies. The refuge is a biologically important wetland, and contains the Bitter Lake Group, a series of saline artesian lakes that provide habitat for the only inland occurrence of a marine alga and two rare fish species. These artesian lakes are collectively designated a National Natural Landmark.
