Galleano Winery (Jurupa Valley, California)

USA / California / Mira Loma / Jurupa Valley, California / Wineville Road, 4321

In the 1893, the West Coast Development Co., an investment firm based in Providence, Rhode Island, bought and subdivided this area to promote fruit farms. In the 1920 this ranch land was bought by the self-exiled first territorial governor of Baja California Norte (1917–1920), Colonel Esteban Cantú Jiménez, after he fell from power in Mexico. Cantu gained wealth by protecting the drug trade in Mexicali, and fame for keeping the Americans from taking control of Baja. Cantú used the ranch to maintain his former soldiers — cavalrymen, now vaqueros (cowboys). Lt. Luis Parma became caretaker of their ranch, and his descendants become prominent in Inland Empire business and politics. In 1927, the Italian immigrant Galleano family bought the 160-acre Cantú ranch to make wine, which continues today. www.galleanowinery.com/

In 2003 Cantu-Galleano Winery was added to the California and National Register of Historic Places (#03000533). www.nationalregisterofhistoricplaces.com/ca/Riverside/s...
