After the construction of the Stanislawow Railroad Station in 1860s, a colony of German workers with a railcar maitenance shop (today Ivano-Frankivsk locomotive maintenance factory) were established right next to it. According to Ivan Bondarev from the Ivano-Frankivsk weekly "Reporter" (August 13, 2009), the residents of Stanislawow called them "Maisli" from the German word meißeln which means chisel. The official name for the neighborhood was the Colony. In 1925 the Colony was merged into Stanislawow, after which the city and the administrative center of a voivodeship surpassed in population another neighboring city Kolomyia (the biggest city of the Stanislawow voivodeship before 1925). Today the neighborhood is better known as Maisli.
