Fenchuganj Upazila (Sylhet district) with an area of 144.48 sq km, is bounded by Sylhet sadar and Golabganj uapzila on the north, Rajnagar and Kulaura upazilas on the south, Barlekha upazila on the east, Balaganj upazila on the west. Main rivers: Kushiyara, Juri, and Sonai; haor 4.

Fenchuganj thana was established in 1907 and was turned into an upazila in 1980. The upazila consists of three union parishads, 30 mouzas and 88 villages.

As of 1991 Bangladesh census, Population 81605; male 51.07%, female 48.93%; Muslim 88.72%, Hindu 11.25%, Buddhist and Christian 0.03%.

Average literacy 53.45%; male 58.2%, female 48.7%. Educational institutions college 1, high school 8, junior high school 2, primary school (government) 30, primary school (private) 4, madrasa 2. Kasim Ali High School (1915), Fariza Khatun Girl's School (1962), Hatuvanga Daruls Sunnah Dakhil Madrasa (1962) are notable educational institutions.
