Nagarpur Upazila (Tangail district) with an area of 266.77 sq km, is bounded by Tangail sadar and Delduar upazilas on the north, Daulatpur upazila (Manikganj) on the south, Mirzapur, Dhamrai and Saturia upazilas on the east, Chauhali and Daulatpur upazilas on the west. Main rivers are jamuna, dhaleshwari, Old Dhaleshwari, Lohajang and Noai.

The Nagarpur thana, now an upazila, was established in 1906. The upazila consists of 12 union parishads, 266 mouzas and 229 villages.

Educational institutions: government college 1, non-government College 3, higher secondary school 28, secondary school 2, madrasa 123, government primary school 90, registered primary school 41, low cost primary school 16, non-government primary school 10. Noted educational institutions are Jadunath Pilot High School (1900), Nagarpur College (1966).
