The Howard Ship Yard Company was founded by James Howard, at Jeffersonville IN in 1834. Howard died in 1876, but his family continued the business until 1941, when the U.S. Government assumed control and the new company was called Jeffersonville Boat & Machine Works, or JeffBoat.
