Southern Nilandhe Atoll, called in Dhivehi, Nilandhe Atholhu Dhekunuburi, and also known as Dhaalu Atoll district for administrative purposes (Dhaalu being the letter of the Dhivehi alphabet assigned to this district), is an atoll in the Maldive Islands. It comprises 56 islands and islets, of which 8 are inhbited, together with reefs and lagoon. It has a population of 6,694. A 9th island, Gemendhoo, was inhabited, but was abandoned after the Tsunami of December 2004 destroyed the buildings. The capital island is Kudahuvadhoo, located at the atoll's southern tip.
