fort, interesting place
Kongsten fortress is situated 500 metres east of The Old Town. It was built around 1680 and is situated on the tiny cliff of Galgeberget.
The fortress was built according to old Italian principles, with high bastions, hornworks and redans that would provide protection for invading armies. However, it became evident that the fortress was prone to attack. It was therefore decided upon to place the canons higher up in the terrain in order to increase the firing range.
