Finished 1855, designed by Abner Cook. Originally built with 6,000 square feet, in 1914 a restoration project added 2,920 square feet with a new addition to the west. This added 7 bathrooms to the mansion which had not originally been included.
It is the fourth oldest governor's mansion in the United States.

During a $10 million renovation in 2008, it was severely damaged by arson in the early morning hours of June 8. Fortunately, all furnishings had been moved to another location and the building was vacant at the time.
