The Board of Directors or Guardians of the Foundling Home, the Opekunsky Soviet, operated the loan bank responsible for financing the Foundling Home. This building was designed in 1821 and built in 1823-1826 from the designs of Afanasii Grigoriev (1782-1869) and Domenico Gilardi (1788-1846). Later additions and alterations were made in 1846 by Dmitrii Bykovskii. It is considered one of the best examples of late neoclassical architecture in Moscow.

Note the large arches, elaborate plaster molding, Ionic portico with dome over the central hall.

Since 1944 it has been the home of the Russian Academy of Medical Science.
