Beautiful place, quiet and green with a forest. Still some ruins exist of the past life during 19th century and earlier. I've found (my guide in fact) some house ruins in between the trees barely visibly from afar.
The island is probably famous for the Coffee House (situated on a hill) and an old church and/or monastery with a small graveyard.
I've reached the island on motor boat from Oughterard (Uachtar Ard) town by the help of the locals, but there is a ferry running to the island in certain months (summer) only, and the ferry stops a while on the island and then moves north to Cong town in Co. Mayo (where Ashford castle and hotel is located). A must see.
