The church of Saint John of Gandzak (Armenian: Գանձակի Սուրբ Հովհաննես եկեղեցի, literally: Gandzaki Surb Hovhannes ekeghetsi), (Azerbaijani: Gandzak'te Müqəddəs İohann kilsəsi) - Armenian Apostolic church in Gence city of today's Azerbaijan. According to construction inscription that existed at the eastern wall of the church, under the solar clocks, the church was built in 1633, reconstructed in 1860. A.D. The church is the oldest building of the city. The provost Avag, centurion Arzuman and melik Melkum are buried here. In the 1970s, the provost of the church was widely known as the compiler of healing talismans and heal using photographs. Up to 1900th the church was functioning, but after the 1988 Kirovabad massacre ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirovabad_pogrom ), Armenian half of Kirovabad was surrounded by Azeris and after the several-days medieval barbarity, the Armenian community ceased to exist, Armenian churches of the city were plundered, destroyed or vandalized by outraged crouds of pogrom-makers. Armenian researchers report, that in order to conceal the Armenian origin of the church, two Armenian inscriptions on the interior and one in exterior of the church were erased, the cross was removed from the church. After those events the church was declared "Caucasian Albanian", then officials decided to organize a music club in the church building. Now the church deprived the cross and construction inscription declared a "state philharmonic".
