São Sebastião Administrative Center - Serra do Mar State Park (Caraguatatuba)

São Sebastião Administrative Center of PESM has some 33.000ha area and is one of the best preserved areas of the state park. It was identified 86 species of mammals the knowledge about the fauna of the nucleus is low yet. Extremely endangered species in the state of São Paulo were recorded, as is the case of the muriqui and jaguar. As in much of the PESM, predominant vegetation is mountain tropical rain forest. It has many waterfalls, such as those of Itu, which is a big attraction for ecotourism. Despite its importance, the area is threatened by urban pressure from their surroundings, removal of timber and illegal hunting, pollution and the presence of Petrobras pipelines.
