It's the largest center of the Serra do Mar State Park (PESM) with about 116.000ha, covering the cities of Bertioga, Cubatão, Santos, São Bernardo do Campo, Praia Grande, Santo André and São Paulo. Althought it is the largest in area, has the least number os registraded species. Great part of the vegetation is in poor state of conservation and there many eucaliptus plantations. This is due the strong pressure for human settlement. The ilegal hunt, wood extration, predadotory tourism, polution, speculation hinder the conservation of the park.
