The History and Archeology Museum in Piatra Neamt is the results of an assiduous and passionate work of many generations, amongst whom Constantin Matasa has the decisive role.The institution was established in 1934 as an archeology museum, the first one in the country. An intellectual with many preoccupations, Father Constantin Matasa established the the museum with the richest collection of eneolithic art (Cucuteni ceramics – mil. III-IV B. C.) in South-Eastern Europe. The Cucuteni culture is the most important civilization in Ancient Europe. During his lifetime, a series of cucutenian settlements, like Frumusica-Bodesti, Izvoare, Calu, became renowned. Along with these, the museum houses exponents from the thraco-geto-dacian period, the Middle Ages, and aspects of local history from the modern and contemporary period.
