Slon is a village beheld by the communality of Cerasu (in Prahova Land), situated at the altitude of 750 m, on the ancient commercial route that linked the old land “Sacuienilor” (of Wallachia) to Brasov – Sacele (of Transylvania). During the mediaeval period, the village was settled as a border check-point. Archaeological research revealed that the mediaeval commercial route was settled on the marks of a Roman mountain road (“Via Strata”), that linked Moesia Inferior to Moesia Superior (the two main provinces of conquered DACIA). As a testimony, in the neighborhood of the village an ancient Roman Caster was uncovered, together with the ruins of two border fortifications, erected by the Austro-Hungarian Empire (which ruled Transylvania) to control the mediaeval merchandise traffic between Transylvania and Wallachia.
