Coquitlam Lake is a main water supply for Greater Vancouver. The water intake is at this dam. While a fair amount of water is supplied to the system, and some flows through the Coquitlam River, much of the lake's water is licensed to BC Hydro for power generation. This water flows through tunnels at the north end of the lake into Buntzen Lake then through the Lake Buntzen generating station into Indian Arm.
