This historically Black college was founded by Joseph Winthrop Holley in 1903 as the Albany Bible and Manual Training Institute. Today this four-year public college serves over 3,500 students and offers more than 30 undergraduate degrees and six advanced degrees. Much of the school's campus was submerged in water from the nearby Flint River during a July 1994 flood caused by Tropical Storm Alberto.
