  • At one time, over 600 "villas by the sea" were built. Builder was, I believe, Merrill Ellinor. Northern half was sold around 1961. Included the Ellinor Village Country Club ( now owned by the city) and a private, block long oceanfront beach. Also had it's own Shopping center, completed around 1950, with A & P, Rexall Drug Store, Standard Gas station, night club, and other shops. "Villas" were renovated in the 90's are are now privately owned -as of this writing , known as "Ocean Village" - community that still uses an Ellinor Village Pool. Not mentioned in the history of Ormond beach by it's chamber, I believe hundreds of thousands of families were introduced to Ormond Beach by staying at this resort during it's approximate 40 year reign.(1948 -app. 1988)
  • I understand that Ellinor Village/Ocean Village was also military housing for officers and their families in the early 40s, so I'm wondering if it started out as that and then became the resort later.
