The McKenney Hills neighborhood is built on part of a 94.544 acre lot that was formerly owned by James H. McKenney (July 12,1837 - October 13,1913). He was the clerk of the Supreme Court for thirty-three years (1880-1913), and was an employee of the court for fifty-five years. The first mention of this neighborhood in the press was in the January 06, 1947; Evening star; Washington, D.C.
