International Monitoring System, infrasound monitoring site
Infrasound station IS49 at Tristan da Cunha is part of the International Monitoring System for detecting nuclear test explosions. Activated in 2005, the station employs an array of five sensing elements to monitor low-frequency sound waves generated by various natural and man-made phenomena. The five elements H1-H5 are arranged in an irregular quincunx and are separated from each other by a minimum of 0.7 km.
