This is the old Jewish neighborhood of Tehran. Until the beginning of the 20th century, most Tehrani jews lived around this neighborhood and there are still many synagogues. In the 1930's most Jews moved to other parts of the city as they became middle-class and around 10,000 continue to live mostly in other neighborhoods of Tehran like Youseffabad and Gisha.
