Kalmeshwar Reservoir was created as a result of construction of Kalmeshwar Dam of Kalmeshwar Irrigation Project . Official Designation of the The Project is " Kalmeshwar D - 04039" . Locally this is also known as " Kalmeshwar Talav" or " Kalmeshwar Lake" . Kalmeshwar Project was constructed as part of irrigation projects by the Government of Maharashtra in the year 1998 . Nearest city to dam is Mehkar and the Dam is situated in Mehkar Taluka of Buldana District of Maharashtra . Kalmeshwar Project is built on and impounds a Local Nallah. The dam is earth fill gravity dam. The purpose of the dam and project is Irrigation . The length of the Dam is 470 m ( 1541.99 Feet ) . while the height of the dam above lowest foundation is 16.09 m ( 52.78 Feet ) . Spillway length is not known . However measured length of the spillway is 74 m ( 242 Feet ) .Spillway is now in damaged condition , but appears to be of other type and is not gated. Catchment area of Kalmeshwar Reservoir is not known. . Maximum / Gross storage capacity of Kalmeshwar Reservoir is 1.451 MCM. Live storage capacity is 1.29 MCM . Now a days almost all the water bodies make for good picnic spots Kalmeshwar lake is also a popular Tourist attraction for its scenic beauty .
