Village inhabited by the Assyrian Tey tribe. Aşîtha [Syriac "tower, wall, set"] was the main settlement of the Lower Tiyari valley. The Tiyari tribe, which was a Nasturian Christian, was virtually independent until 1846. Cuinet estimates the population of 1891 as 6000 people. (SN)
