The infrasound array station IS44 is part of the International Monitoring System (IMS) for detecting nuclear test explosions. The array configuration is triangular with central element H1 and corner elements H2-H4. The station detects natural as well as artificial sources of infrasound and is well positioned to monitor the frequent volcanic activity on the Kamchatka peninsula and Kuril Islands.
