  • If you would like to see the magnificent statues from both pediments, the inner frieze, and the metopes, you need to go to London, England. They were "stolen" by Lord Elgin, and are now in the British Museum.
  • It was blown up by the Venetians, not the Persians. In 1687 the city, then ruled by the Ottoman Turks, was attacked by Venetian forces. The Turks stored their ammunition in the Parthenon. When it was struck by a cannonball the munitions exploded, taking a good chunk of the Parthenon with it.

  • The Parthenon is the greatest ancient building on the world. Through all the ages it had many adventures, but it survived from been lost for ever. Now it is the time to rescue it from the polution and bring back all the marbles, which were stolen by Lord Elgin.
  • their was 3 parthenons. the first one is the labeled as the old temple of athena. that one was blown up by the persians. the second one was only a foundation where the current parthenon stands but was stopped and built over because they needed 8 collumns in the front instead of the six they were starting on. the 3rd and current parthenon was built over the 2nd and their was later an explosion caused by a cannon ball striking their ammunitions depot in side of the current parthenon. so grecodan you were correct and incorrect
