14-story Neo-Classical cooperative-apartment building completed in 1906 as an office building. Designed by Howells & Stokes for the Title Guarantee & Trust Company, it has a 2-story base clad in black granite, divided into three wide bays with metal and glass infill. The 3rd-8th floors have wide limestone piers, with recessed columns of triple windows between them. At the 3rd floor the windows are framed in stone, and the center window in each bay is topped by a triangular pediment, the one in the center also having a stone cartouche. Between the upper portion of each bay, carved wreaths and garlands decorate the piers. The windows above are framed in green cast-iron, with spandrel panels featuring cast-iron wreaths and garlands between the 6th & 7th floors. Ornate Corinthian capitals crown the piers at the 8th floor.
The 11th floor is set off by a stone cornice below, and a larger cornice above, with nine evenly-spaced windows separated by stone piers with vertical grooves. Blocky brackets on the piers support the upper cornice. The 12th floor returns to the three bay organization, with three windows in each bay. More stone wreaths and garlands ornament the tops of the piers on this floor. Above another cornice, the upper floors are less decorated, but have the same recessed bays of green cast-iron framed triple windows as seen below. The original ornament at the top of the piers crowning the roof line has been removed. The ground floor fronting Broadway is occupied by William Barthman Jewelers, and a Capital One Bank branch.
A 7-story wing on the south side extends through to Maiden Lane. It is clad in buff-colored brick above the ground-floor storefronts. The facade is divided into six even bays of square-headed windows, with stone cornices above the 3rd & 6th floors. The wing is capped by a dentiled roof cornice. The ground floor is occupied by Chameleon Comics and Cards, Pronto Pizza, and Downtown Threading salon.
Another 14-story wing at 7 Maiden Lane was built as an addition in 1923. It has a 2-story limestone base, framed by narrow rope moldings. The upper floors are clad in buff-colored brick, and divided in to three bays of paired windows with stone sills, separated by cast-iron mullions. The piers run uninterrupted to the roof line. At the top three floors the paired windows give way to single window, with a wide, projecting surround framing those on the 13th floor, and each bay ending in a shallow segmental-arched at the top floor.
In 2012, the whole building was converted to a residential co-op, with 72 apartments.
