office building, 1961_construction, Modern (architecture)
302-ft, 25-story early modernist office building completed in 1961. Designed by Harry F. Green, it was originally known as 66 Beaver Street. The building has a 2-story base of plate glass with thin metal mullions, and light grey-green panels. The upper floors are clad in off-white brick. Each facade is divided into 2-window bays by vertical, protruding black metal bars. Each window pair is, in turn, divided by a metal mullion. There is a setback above the 9th floor on the northern elevation, and at the 19th floor on the southern and eastern elevations, with the top floors continuing the same facade design as below.
The building was fully renovated in 2006, when the name switched to 5 Hanover Square. Along with a new, relocated lobby, the ground floor is occupied by a UPS Store, Cafe Hanover, and H&R Block.
