Cofresi, located approximately 10 km west of Puerto Plata, was named after an infamous Puerto Rican pirate, Captain Roberto Cofresi. The town had its humble beginnings as a small fishing village. Today Cofresi is a resort community consisting of higher-end hotels and exclusive private villas enjoying picturesque ocean and mountain views.
