The Castle was built by will of Bishop Landolfo between 1010 and 1037 and in 1347 it was destroyed by Giovanni Visconti’s army. Only one of the four towers of the Castle is still extant today.
In the 19th century it was turned into a private house and for a few years it hosted Count Brassier of Saint-Simon, the Prussian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Sardinia.
In 1863 John Perkins Marsh, the first American Ambassador to the Savoy Court, and his wife Caroline Crane lived here. It has been a property of the Town of Piobesi since 1998. The medieval tower (dating back to as far back as the 14th century) and the rooms on the ground floor including the former chapel (currently hosting the public library) are open to the visitors, along with the Italian gardens.
In 2006 an agreement was signed, granting to IFSE the use of the entire manor for the establishment of an “Educational Centre in Healthy Cooking”, with the exception of the town public library that will however be open to the public and to IFSE students as well.
