The Canadian National Railway built a dam on the Arm River in the early 1900s to supply water to the trains. It was about 500 metres north of the new dam. By the late 1950s, the old CNR dam was in disrepair and held only a small amount of water. The new Craik dam was built in 1961/62 by the Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Administration. It was turned over to the Craik Municipality No. 222 in 1964.
