The indigenous people was the Assyrian who have been replaced by Shabak who are Shea'a minority originally from Iran who came as logistic tribs for Nader Shah army during his campaign to occupy Mosul in 1742. When Nader Shah defeated, nomad Shabak tribes stayed in this fertile land after killing most the assyrians.
