town, county seat

Once known as Georgetown, Leesburg is the county seat of Loudoun County, Virginia. It is known for its historic downtown. Once a distant exurb of Washington, D.C., suburbia finally reached the town in the late '80s and early '90s, with the construction of a number of large subdivisions at the periphery of the town limits. Leesburg, and the county as a whole, continues to post remarkable population growth statistics, as well as boast high-quality public schools and low unemployment. As of the 2010 Census, 42,616 lived in Leesburg town proper, and 73,675 lived in the Leesburg postal area.
