Silver Lake (also known as Silver Lake Civil Aeronautics Administration Airfield 18) was built to replace Baker Field, which was used by airmail pilots on the Los Angeles-Salt Lake City airmail route in approximately 1926-1927. It was operational approximately 1940 to 1954 and was used as a training field by the Civil Air Patrol during WWII. Silver Lake boasted a hangar, barracks, mess hall and even a swimming pool and bath house.
