Ruins of Bar Lev Line

Egypt / al-Ismailiyah / Ismailia /
 ruins, fortification, interesting place

This is the memorial ruins of The Bar Lev Line (arabic: خط برليف, Hebrew: קו בר לב) was a chain of fortifications built by Israel along the eastern coast of the Suez Canal after it captured the Sinai Peninsula from Egypt during the 1967 Six-Day War.
This part of Egypt was retaken by the Egyption Armed Forces in 6 October 1973 in what was so called (Yom Kippur War)- which was named after the Israeli's Holiday Yom Kippur - This Defensive line was built in 1968 by the Israeli forces costing $500 million then, eventually this line that took 6 years to build has fallen down in the hands of the Egyptians in 6 hours only in 1973..

  • If it was not a painful defeat to the Israeli army, Golda Meir would have never screamed "save Israel", Israel would have never begged the pressure of USA on the United Nation to pass the resolution 338 calling for cease fire, & if it was not big defeat Israel would have never withdrawn from an inch of Sinai & would have stayed till now same as in Golan heights.
  • I would call it a costly defensive victory against overwhelming odds, which it was. As opposed to the stunning and much easier offensive victory of the Six Day War.
