Constituted 1 June 1959 in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard as 28th Aviation Company and assigned to the 28th Infantry Division; concurrently, organized and federally recognized at New Cumberland. Reorganized and redesignated 1 April 1963 as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 28th Aviation Battalion, and remained assigned to the 28th Infantry Division (organic elements concurrently organized from existing units).
