Second World War 1939-1945, military, fortification, artillery battery
Built prior to WW2 to protect Perth and the Port of Fremantle from attack, Oliver Hill Battery was fitted with 2 x BL 9.2in MkX guns (designated H1 and H2).
In addition to the gun emplacements, above ground shelters and workshops were built as well as underground facilities for magazines, machinery rooms, personnel rooms and stores. The battery was also connected via narrow-gauge railway to the Army Jetty in Thomson Bay.
