Also known as Tunnel No. 29, the tunnel was built in 1908 to allow the transportation of Los Angeles Aqueduct materials. It burned for six months in 1981, crippling rail-based transportation of goods until the historic shoo-fly to the west was re-laid with rail and the pass re-opened.
