North Keeling Atoll (Malay name: Pulu Keeling) is the northernmost island in the Cocos (Keeling)Islands territory. It is the place where the wreck of SMS Emden is located. Uninhabited. Since 1989, hunting has been banned in the island to protect the Cocos Buff-banded Rail which is endemic and threatened, and the breeding colony of Red-footed Boobies. In 1995, the island and the surrounding sea to 1.5km from shore were declared the Pulu Keeling National Park.
