The Neaves-Davis Center for Children provides intake services for juvenile deliquency and CHINS cases referred to the Madison County Juvenile Court, Probation and Aftercare services for juveniles under the supervision of the Madison County Juvenile Court, secure detention for juveniles detained by court order pending court hearings or acceptance into treatment programs, coordination of court ordered community service for juvenile offenders and anonymous drug testing of children, upon the request of the parent who suspects drug use by the child and payment of a nominal fee.
The Neaves-Davis Center for Children houses juvenile court intake and probation services, juvenile detention services, the community service program and the community placement and supervision program.
The detention section of the facility has a design capacity for 48 juveniles. Residents are juveniles who are alleged to have committed acts of delinquency and have been detained to await trial, or juveniles who have received a hearing decree and are waiting placement in a treatment facility. Programs for detained juveniles include: food services, medical services, recreational activities, educational services, religious services and library services.
Funding for the Neaves-Davis Center for Children is provided by the Madison County Commission, the City of Huntsville and the State of Alabama, including a grant from the Alabama Law Enforcement Planning Division to fund the Community Service Program. The educational program is provided by Huntsville City Schools. The library is a joint project of Huntsville Public Library and the Madison County Commission. Community religious groups provide the religious activities.
