Bolsover Castle (Bolsover)

United Kingdom / England / Bolsover
 castle, English Heritage

The original castle on this site was built in the 12th Century by the Peveril family. It was purchased by Sir George Talbot (6th Earl of Shrewsbury, fourth husband to 'Bess of Hardwick') in 1553. The castle was later acquired, in 1613, by Sir Charles Cavendish, who commenced rebuilding. This work was completed under his son, William (who was grandson to Bess of Hardwick and her first husband).
The castle is in the care of English Heritage and is open to the public, sometimes with displays of hawking, jousting and toxopholy.
