Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary is operated by the Belize Audubon Society (www.belizeaudubon.org). One of the oldest inhabitated places in Belize it started as a Logwood camp.

It is one of the most productive birding sites in Belize. Birds of interest to see here are Jabiru, Agami Heron, Roseate Spoonbill, Boat-billed Heron, Snail Kite, Limpkin, Yucatan Jay, and Black Catbird.

Agami Heron is usually only found from the boat tours based on the Island. Most other birds are found easily on foot.

There are several trails through and around the village.

Close to and easily accessable from Belize City its and recommended stop for birders in Belize for a day from a cruiseship.

There are several rustic places to stay on the island. If a thatch hut by the lagoon is not for you the Bird's Eye View Lodge is recommended. (www.birdseyeviewbelize.com)
