The building began its life in 1747 as the Old Bath Theatre, (Theatre Royal, there is a plaque on the Old Orchard Street wall to commemorate this and the appearances of Sarah Siddons the famous actress pictured above) the architects were Hippesley and Watts and the building was completed by John Powell in 1750.
It was used as theatre till around 1804 and during that thirty year period it was made famous by Mrs Siddons and other actors and actresses of the time.
The Beaufort Square Theatre was completed in 1805 and the Old Theatre began a new life as a Roman Catholic Church closely followed then as a Masonic Hall.
The building is Grade: II listed.
