Golden Horseshoe Saloon (Anaheim, California)

USA / California / Garden Grove / Anaheim, California

Home of the original The Golden Horseshoe Revue, playing from July 16, 1955 until October 12, 1986. It ran five times a day, 52 weeks a year. The show marked many milestones and was even included in the 1979 Guinness Book of World Records as “the longest running production in show business with over 42,000 performances before a total of nearly 9 million people.” Walt Disney himself was a big fan of the Revue.

Now a mere shadow of it's GHR glory days, "Billy Hill and the Hillbillies" www.jansworld.net/billy_hill/1_billy_hill_main_page.htm is the most current daily act on stage.

Noteable actors with The Golden Horseshoe Revue include:
Wally Boag en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wally_Boag
Betty Taylor legends.disney.go.com/legends/detail?key=Betty+Taylor
Dick Hardwick, who I worked with briefly after his Horseshoe days and, recently attended one of his long-in-the-tooth but, still funny stand-up shows. www.dickhardwick.com/
Fulton Burley, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fulton_Burley

Fulton Burley was the only singer to ever make me weep with joy from hearing his smooth, yet belting tennor voice. I miss him, and all the Can-Can Girls! (Yes, even my sister.)

  • Good review of the show and some great links for fans of this cornball music hall silliness. I recently saw this for the first time and loved it! I am not a fan of country and western music nor did I ever enjoy the show Hee Haw, but there is something charming and satirical about the way everything is presented. Fun poked, but no maliciousness. All this and ice cream! Service is a little slow and you may have to remind the crew behind the counter to attend to the clientle, rather than each other. We have returned twice and each time we have a similar experience, with other customers (guests) making the same observations. In all of my experiences with Disney this is the only place I have found where this poor quality of service exists. The show is top notch however and I would say it is a "don't miss" for adults and littlekids. Teens may find it too quaint, but I have seen plenty of young adults laughing and tapping toes.
  • Customer service is a thing of the past most everywhere nowadays. I would call "service" at the Horseshoe non-existent. There was a time when you didn't have to wait in a long line to belly-up to the bar, a hostess would seat your party and, a waitress would take your order at your table. That was service.
