Originally the site of the First American National Bank building. Flad & Associates of Madison, architects. This structure was built in 1974 (occupied in early 1976) and was Wausau's first indoor 'shopping mall' with eight stories in the two story base above which rises the four floor 'tower'. Also had the first skywalk in Wausau leading to the parking structure across Second Street. The First American Center structure replaced the original Renaissance Revival style bank building with its grand banking hall which was erected in 1925. To save the bank from having to move twice, the new structure was built around the old bank. When the bank had completed the move to the new structure, the old building was demolished and the plaza created. Wausau Insurance Companies, then known as Employers Mutual of Wausau was started on this site in 1911.
