KPVT - one of the kAnchi periyavA visited temples.the lingam of this temple was lying in the adjacent tank and people were washing cloths on a stone. The Kanchi Maha periyavar identified the stone as the Ardhanareeswar and this temple was built. In the same temple complex, behind the Ardhanareeswarar shrine, there is a separate shrine for Ashtabuja (with eight hands) Durgai.
