"Wildflower" (New York City, New York)

USA / New York / Saddle Rock / New York City, New York
residence, estate (manor / mansion land), interesting place, historical building

The 32-unit simplex/duplex condominium complex built late 1990's on the former Arthur Hammerstein estate. The 15-room Neo-Tudor mansion c.m1924-25 by architect Dwight James Baum was built for producer/songwriter Arthur Hammerstein (uncle of Oscar Hammerstein II), it was added on to in late 1920's. The onset of the depression forced him to sell it in 1930, and after various owners, it became the Clearview Yacht Club, then a restaurant. After years of abandonment and neglect, it was restored after arson attempts, and the mansion was divided into six condos as well as the others built around it. Whitestone Landing/Beechhurst was a popular enclave in this era for theatrical and business people, but this is the last remaining trace of it.

The estate home is a designated New York City landmark.
