Originally, Wausau Homes manufactured modular housing with some floor plans who's appearance appeared custom at the time. The housing downturn in the 90's led to layoffs. At a loss as to what to do with their assets, the company employed its large fleet of trucks to haul for others and eventually turned into a trucking company. When the plant opened, there was a 'village' of model homes along the freeway.
