Yanghwadang (Hall) built in 1484 as a royal residence was burnt in 1592 during the Japanese invasion of Korea. Rebuilt in 1616, it was again burnt down in 1624, during the Revolt of Lee Gwal. It was soon rebuilt after the revolt.
The present building was built in 1834 after a fire of 1830.
