District 3 was named after the famous giant Sacaton grass that once grew in this valley and, like the vigorous growing grass, the village of Sacaton has grown as well with new buildings.

  • The town of Sacaton is where Ira Hayes was born. He was one of the Marines/Sailors who raised the U.S. flag on Mt. Suribachi ( Iwo Jima), and the picture that was taken on that day is still one of the most famous pic of WWII. Hayes is shown on the far left in the famous pic.
